The following five types of gold jewelry are not real gold. According to national regulations, all gold jewelry must have the appropriate hallmark stamped on it.
AU is the chemical symbol for gold, and G is the first letter of the English word "Gold." These two letters represent gold. For example, when you see AU990 or G990, this means the item is gold with a purity of no less than 99%. Similarly, AU750, G750, or G18K represent gold with a purity of 75%.
However, if the hallmark is GP or KP, it represents gold plating.
KF represents gold-filled.
GF/KGF represents gold overlay.
Any jewelry marked with these five hallmarks is not real gold. Also, if the area around the hallmark is dark or blackened, it indicates the hallmark was stamped later, meaning the piece may be counterfeit. So, be sure to look carefully and don’t get tricked.
